My best friend and I all through high school were joined at the hip. We flirted all the time and it could be said we were friends with benefits. We dates once for three months and it didn't work. After a short time apart (6 months) we were best buds like before. 10 years later we are still best friends and I am now happily married. The benefits have changed but the friendship is still as strong and happy.
As for your friend, if you could imagine spending the rest of your life with him and all that implies, then go for it. But first stop and see how he acts around you when your out in public. If its the same as when your alone then asking might be an option.

I think he likes you; in most cases guy friends do like you unless he is constantly talking about some other girl, and close friends of the opposite gender are usually mistaken as a couple or are secretly a couple.

I have three boy-bestfriends and I know the feeling of being confused about if he likes u or not. If u two just like eachother as friends why does it matter if he's into you or not? It seems as if u like him. The truth is bound to come out soon because u two are so close. He would tell you if he did. If you can't wait any longer just ask.

well people take flirtatious as couple thing, strictly couple terriotory so i understand im like that too but you might want to talk to him but even if your slightly interested (which u probably r) than take him a bit more seriously just be like "ya know people think were a couple sometimes, what about if we were???" and if he reasponds like "well we could be" or "what about if we were?" than u might want to ask him out. good luck

There's no way a guy could be your best friend, unless he's also your boyfriend or gay. They aren't built for it.

he'll tell you.
unless you told him not to.
if you did. countermand that. NOW!
(not to be bossy...)
now then...
he'll probably drop some hints:
e.g. you're a joy to be with
things like that...
maybe you two should consider being a couple...
lol
