More aid won't solve the problems. They simply need freedom and simple justice. The people in the developing world are not stupid or incapable of dealing with their own needs. They don't need rich Americans to pity them. The primary problems are corruption, and rigid governments that don't allow the people to find their own solutions. Simple economics: if you give people the opportunity to control their own lives and achieve their goals, they will do so.
There's no harm in helping out with big issues like diseases or providing educational help. These are areas that we may provide useful advantages. But we shouldn't imagine that we're the solution. The people of Africa know their own problems better than we ever will. We need to step back and let them find their own way.

Production of food is not the problem. The United States by itself could produce enough food to feed the world and so could a few other countries. It is distribution and local politics that control the availability of food. Many countries (the United States included) offer tons of food for peoples of need world wide for no cost. In some areas this works as intended and in others, those food stocks are controlled by people who charge for it. In today’s news Gaza is such an example.
How is this changed? Many people have thought about this, many things tried, and yet, no answer as of yet.

I think we should give food and build homes for them from donations that we the USA help run. Heres a fact, all the donations that you give to the private groups send it to the 3rd country but they never make it to the people because the government steal it. Thats one reason why there are still poverty. take a look, their leaders are rich as hell but the ppl are poor as hell. I think the best way is to directly support the ppl there or to make a program that every famlily that can afford another child/person can support these ppl so they wont go to hunger.

Aid is generally squandered whether it be from chairty or western governments.
with regards to ending starvation, the best hope for the 3rd world lies in GM crops that are resilient to the harsh conditions that they have to face out there.
Ending poverty will be a little harder. Any finacial assistance will be abused by the dictators in power, and any military action to remove these dictators will be opposed by the politically correct.

you or we cant,so don't try,the reason their is so much poverty in the third world countries is they have over populated their country.they don't have the resources to feed all the people and it is only going to get worst.although we in the west don't like to see these images on television, all the sponsoring the world isn't going to fix the problem, soon nature will take its course and deal with it the same as it deals with lemmings in the Arctic and reduce the population, i know this seem harsh but our planet cant handle over population

Well, unfortunately many thousands will now die in North Korea, because food rice and fertilizer shipments are now stopped due to their stupidity to test a lousy missile.
Save your money, until foreign govenments are overthrown by their own hungry people.

First, let's narrow the question. Africa rather than the "third world." First, we must defeat Islam. Then the nations of the African union must form one government. Then the "West" must send doctors and engineers and money and even bug killers. Africa needs stable, honest government, infrastructure, aid.

Look I know that these countries are down and out on resources but what i can't understand is why we can't help out the people in our country 1st..There's so many people in this country with no job, no resources, low income and we have homeless people here too...Why is that we have to spend millions of dollars when we need it here..What about our education funds and etc...We insist on taking care of others when our own neighbors need help..
