The question you should ask instead of "What common goal do all religions share?" is, What religion is the Truth? Christianity is the one true religion because it is the only religion that does not expect anyone to be able to get to heaven on their own. Think about it, is there one person you know who is perfect enough to take the punishment for sin for all and who you would trust to get you to heaven? I don't know anyone like that except Jesus Christ. He takes the punishment for us and changes our hearts for us once we invite him in. Also, think about this, how many times do you think you have to bow in a certain direction or repeat a phrase in order to get to heaven? If we use our rational thinking, we know that neither one of these "theories" or worshipping trinkets, etc. will get us to heaven. We need a higher power in order to do that. That is why no one has the right to judge anyone else. No one could get to heaven on their own. We all need Jesus and Christians only get to heaven by accepting Jesus as their Lord and Savior. There is no other way!!

Different people will answer this in a different manner. Most will say a belief in a power greater than ourselves, whether a divine being or other higher power.

To me, the NEED for most people to have religious beliefs, is based on a need to deal with the things that frighten us. Death; suffering; strife and tribulation.

Just try once imagining the end of your existence. Imagine absolute nothingness for ever and ever and ever. For most people that is a really scary thought, and most people simply can't imagine their total and eternal non-existence. They find a strong need to believe there is some mechanism by which they can gain eternal life.

The leaders of religions may have different motives, including sexual access to many women, or financial gain.

They all think they are the "one true religion".
Supposedly they all believe that love conquors all - sometimes at the point of a knife or at the end of the barrel of a gun.
Love mankind is the message of Buddha, Mohammed, Christ, etc. It just seems to get lost in the translation.
