I don't personally know him, but I think he is an amazing to create a personal computer. It was totally out of the norm to create a PC when he started and everybody said it wasn't going to work or nobody will buy it. Now everybody has a computer.

I think he is a brilliant businessman and a creative genius. On the creative side, he came up with an idea that even a giant company like IBM didn't see a market for, and sold it to millions of people. He's also been a little ruthless--- a lot of the mergers and acquisitions and "borrowed" technology are him and his company exploiting the "grey" area of business law. Yep, he's gotten his hand smacked more than once, but he's also made some very brilliant moves by just barely avoiding the illegal. I think if he had tried harder to be "more ethical" and encouraged his company to do the same, they'd be nowhere near as successful as they are now.
And I think his philanthropist phase is an example to all other giant companies and billionaires. Think of how much good work could be done if ALL the giants would open their wallets like he has.
:) And before you ask if I am Bill Gates' kid or something... I actually work for one of his big competitors. The company I work for sued Microsoft a couple of weeks ago! Although I did "meet" him once; I was visiting Seattle and he was in a neighborhood dive burger joint having a burger and a beer. I said Hi, he said Hi, that was it. But seeing such a famous and wealthy man in a burger joint was pretty neat!

I used to have a general dislike because of the monopoly thing but you that was probably just jealousy.
I have been impressed by his recent charity work though. Hope he can get the results he is apparently seeking.

He is a great man, but I still feel bad for programs that get eaten alive by Microsoft when they're clearly much better. Firefox, for example?
