I am an Australian. After reading the other answers posted to this question i was mortified. Never in my life have I had *convict blood* in my veins. All of my ancestors came here freely from their given countries. To be judged like that is insulting. Being an Australian means we are caring, relaxed and generous. Most of all, we do not JUDGE people in other countries simply based upon that country's history. Foreign people are moving to this country every day and yet as Australians, they are judged by other countries as descending from convicts. This is extremely unfair. The previous posts are a load of crap, highly un-true and shows exactly how people around the world are judged and judge one another. It is not surprising that there is so much tension between different countries around the world. It is the narrow-mindedness of people such as those who previously posted that make it so.

The majority of the people there are descendants of prisoners. The prisoners were exiled there as a punishment. Recently the Australians have been proud of who they are if they are related to the prisoners. I heard that prostitutes were sent there on trumped up charges just so the men would be happier. The ratio was about 100 men to 1 woman or something like that. hmmmmmm, makes you think.

It means you are a citizen of a great, dynamic, beautiful & exciting country.

I must apologize for all those who denigrate members of this great country by calling them criminals or descendents of criminals. Wish i could afford to visit!
