basically rap became an outlet and a new revolution for the african americans that lived in the outskirts of the big cities where crime and poverty were at a high in the late 70's-early 80's. The music was meaningful and powerful, and that lasted until about the mid 90's when rap music slimmed down the english language to about 200 words, those of which include b.i.t.c.h, ho, rims, thugs, and the like. That's rap in a nutshell.
