Give him something that is NOT NY--Something that is found in your area only. That way--he will always remember you when he looks at it.

I'm guessing money is no object since you didn't indicate. A great gift is a swiss army knife...they come with scissors, knives, flashlights and even flash drives on them nowadays. You could get him that and or a restaurant gift card is great too. Convenience and drug stores sell and array of them. OR you could send him a thoughtful card and let some crisp fresh green cash fall out and into his lap. I don't care WHO you are... that is always a nice thing!!

something from where you are from. What is your state or country popular for ?
Cuba ? cigars
Canada ? maple syrup and so forth
and some nice paper and pre stamped envelopes or a nice pen set so he can keep on writing you and he can see you like getting his letters

this may sound sort of old fashioned, but when i read your question, getting him a really nice pen popped in my head. since you all are pen pals (even if it is on the computer) i thought it would be appropriate--i don't know how serious things are. you could even get it engraved if you opted to!!
