There are many reasons for having a late period. If she is an athlete and trains a lot she may be delayed due to that. Mostly physical or a combination of physical and psychological stress will delay a period. Psychological stress on its own has been shown to cause an early period, which is what you had. The average start of menstruation in the United States is 12.6 years. At eighteen, I would say that your friend definetly needs to see a gynocologist. She may need assistance in getting her period started, also, she is at the age to begin her yearly pap smears to check for other problems, such as cervical cancer.

I have read, that because of the growth hormones injected into livestock, raised for out meat, eggs and milk, the past 2 generations have been beginning menses ( having periods) at earlier ages than their mothers. The cousin who started so late (18) is far from the norm. She may have a problem with her hormones or possibly her Thyroid gland.That is not normal.

I agree that every woman is different, which means each woman will her have her period at a different age. However, 18 years old does seem old to have not had a period yet, so I would tell your cousin to see a doctor, just to make sure nothing is wrong. And the sooner, the better!

well she should proubly go to a doctor right away!! that means she may never be able to have childern.. wich is a horrible thing! so im not sure what is going on but my advice would be go to a doctor right away and do what ever they say to do!
