i have just started playing the guitar and lets say u play and F so u have to play the one string or all of them ?

A chord means several different notes played together. If you want to play an F major chord then you'd need to play an F, A, and a C at the same time. An F by itself is just an F.

bear in mind that F chords can be played in a variety of ways. With chords, you play more than one string, although how many you play depends on the exact nature of the chord as well as what kind of sound you're going for.

First of all, it's a chord not a cord.

The whole point of a chord is to play several strings at the same time and have them sound nice.

So you play all of them. Buy a chordbook and it will all get infinitely easier.
