I actually feel more comfortable with a women. I guess it's because she has the same thing as you - a vagina.
And it shouldn't be scary. It's just a bit cold when they put the metal rod in there. But I doubt they'll put it in you since you're just getting medication. They may look at you, but don't let it bother you. We're human and there's nothing wrong with our bodies, so don't be scared.

I prefer male gynecologists. I don't know why...I always have. Actually, I prefer male doctors period...doesn't matter what their specialty is.
If this is your first time going, you're probably going to be horribly mortified. I, on the other hand, have been seen an ob/gyn for 12 - 13 years now, and have delivered two kids. During my numerous ob/gyn visits and the births of my two children, I lost any modesty I might have once had. :)
Just keep this in mind...being responsible and getting birth control is a GOOD thing you're doing, and whatever doctor you end up going to (young, old, male, female, etc.) has seen it all...what you have is nothing special compared to any other woman. There's no reason to be embarrased.

I am older than you, and have three children, but I still prefer a woman. They are more understanding of your sensitivities and concerns. Plus being a woman, they understand how some things are very important to you as a woman where male gynecologists are not that understanding. Men also lack the emotional sensitivities that we women sometimes need when discussing intimate questions. Not true of ALL male gynecologists, but most. Try a female doctor first and discover for yourself how you feel about the situation.

because it is your first time you should probably go see a woman gynecologist and after you've had a few check ups then you wont care wether your doctor is a male or female. Good job on getting the birth control. Remember you can get free birth control pills, paps and condoms through planned parenthood.

No, they ought to not launch any information that you do not pick them to. even if, if you're part of your figure's coverage plan and also you pick particular checks or drugs that would want to have some thing to do with inspite of you pick to keep deepest, your father and mom might want to be able to figure it out in the experience that they are nosy adequate (although maximum some thing would nicely be got here about as a a effortless technique or an consumer-friendly an infection). yet docs, really gynecologists, are completely attentive to the pick to be discreet, they thoroughly understand your concerns, and from my journey, are very sympathetic. a number of the excellent docs.

Most of my gynocologist have been men, you get used to it. Don't worry about being naked in front of them, they try their best to be discrete. And all they see is naked women all day, I think and I know this will sound weird but after a while they don't see it. anymore.
Relax, talk to your friends and find someone they like and I am glad you are planning before you have sex, just remember no birth control is 100%. If you do get pregnant, make sure you are ready and able to commit to this man and don't forget STDs. You should both be tested.

They say that a man will more likely "discover" if anything is wrong, but I personally feel more comfortable in front of a female...just because, well, a man takes his car to a male mechanic because the guy mechanic knows "all the parts", and I just assume that a female gyn will be better because she "has all the parts" just like me...so...yeah!

my first was a man. it's not weird or anything because the person is looking at you for your health. if you are feeling really freaked out about it, have your boyfriend or someone else go in the room with you.
right now, I currently have a female doctor because I had to have an appointment with her because my doctor was unavailable. She was really good and thorough so I decided to keep her. Go to your appointment and see how you feel about the person you are assigned to. Go by your feelings. If you are comfortable, keep that person, if not, try someone else...

Been to both & it didn't really make a difference either way to me. My first OBGYN practice was two men & I loved them both. One of them delivered 2 of my kids & he was awesome.
Sure it's kind of scary the first time, but there is always a nurse with you, too & the doctor explains what is happening every step of the way.

In 10 years of GYN visits I still think they're uncomfortable. I've liked my male doctors more because of their personalities, not just because they were men. one OB/GYN I went to ended up on maternity leave when my daughter was born so she was useless to me.
Whether you choose a male or female, find a doctor you're comfortable talking with about your health concerns.
