Why do people value the opinions of others so very much?

Because we're social animals and depend upon each other to survive, as well as to learn, for love, to procreate, and for many, many other reasons.

You can never live long enough to learn everything, learn off other people it will make you wiser person.
Also its about being an open person, everyones opinion is different if you want someone to listen to your opinion listen to theres otherwise no one will ever listen you.

Why because some people have been thru the same thing that you are going thru remmeber we once was young to so they say the older you get the wiser you become smile ps we try to keep you'll from making hte same mistakes

Because in our eyes we wanna impress others so that we can feel good about ourselves. I mean if someone else thinks that we are a peice of crap then that is kinda projected on to how we feel about our selves. I mean if someone close to us can look at us and say hey i am proud of u that gives us a reason to look at our selves and see that we are doing something right. And if someone looks at us and says that we look beautiful today then that gives us a reason to beleive it when we feel that we look like crap.

because we are group society and not reaaly the opinions but the things we do to stay in the pack and have others approval yes its dumb but everybody does it. we are all unique so that means we are all the same
