Both the male and female are called a ladybug. The way to tell the difference is in the coloring. The darker redder ones are the males and the lighter oranger ones are the females. The males are brighter for use in attracting a mate.

The actual common name is the "LadyBird Beetle." Here is an article. Their name comes from "Beetle of Our Lady", because of their role in saving crops from destruction by their appetite for harmful insects. So call the males a Ladybug if you wish, they probably won't mind (even though they are beetles).
