Absolutely. That is what's so wonderful about capitalism, you get paid what you are worth.

Entertainers get paid according to what the public is willing to pay them. If the public as a whole decided that it wasn't worth paying $100 bucks plus for a concert seat, $50 for a t-shirt or $20 for a CD, then the entertainers would make less money because we refused to shell out that much moola.
Entertainers will get paid big bucks as long as the public is willing to shell out big bucks to see them

Entertainers, and most celebrities, are pretty much paid what they're worth. Elton John, for example, can charge $125 a ticket for one of his concerts, not because he wants to, but because they're are people out there willing to pay $125 just to see him. When people don't want to pay to see an entertainer perform as much as they used to (e.g. John Travolta), his price per film comes down.
I think if people really wanted to see someone like swilkes working down at the local McDonald's, and only swilkes, swilkes per-hour wage would suddenly skyrocket.
Simple law of supply and demand is at work here.

A lot of people involved with a movie (I'm assuming you're talking about movie stars) are making a lot more money than the stars do. It's only fair that since it's their name that's bringing in the money, they should be paid an equitable share.
Take for example "A Few Good Men." Its total box office receipts worldwide are $236 million. Cruise got $20 million, less than 10% of gross. Yet it was his name (plus Nicholson) that brought in the money.
Sony Pictures makes about $2 billion--that's with a b--per year.

You get paid for demand. The more you are in demand, the more you get payed. Hey, you can work hard, or you can work smart. There are not many celebrities that can do the work they do, so they take advantage of this, and can name their price. On the other hand, there are millions of doctors out there, so there is big competition. Dont think that celebrities did not have to go through hell to get noticed, because they did. It's never easy to make a name for yourself. They just worked smart.

No. Teachers, firefighters, police, paramedics farmers too many to list. I used to go to concerts when I was younger but refuse to pay the prices for concerts or tickets for movies. It's cheaper to wait for the video to come out. There is enough in nature and life to keep me occupied without helping to make so called stars richer. I've seen and heard people on the street and in churches that sing just as beautifully for free. Pay those who deserve it. We wonder why our our country is "dumbing" down?

No, nor do I think professional sports figures should get as much as they do. But as another poster suggested, it's the free market. People who want to see them will pay the price. I support the free enterprise system, but sometimes it does seem to get a little out of hand.

Some of them do make an awful lot of money - what I wish is that they stop thinking they are so much better than everyone else, shut their mouths and keep their political views to themselves.

Not a chance, what about doctors and detectives that solve murders, psychologists, nurses. The entertainers I don't think have to go through a lot of schooling to do what they do.

For what they contribute to society, they shouldn't be able to earn above a specified amount. Oh, if I could only rule the world.
