This answer is as much a generality as your question, but I think there is some truth to it.
Again I say, "generally speaking,"
Guys are hard-wired to be more analytical and oriented to problem-solving.
Gals are more oriented toward relation-building and empathy. That's why gals often do as Luke Skywalker, and "listen to your feelings." When your feelings are your first response, you give them considerable weight.
However -- and I speak from family experience -- guys are more oriented towards problem-solving and "fixing things."
When my daughter fell off her bike and skinned up her knees, of course I ran down the street and scooped her up and ran home with her. But my actions were more to protect (hold her tight while running home), and then doing the clean-up-check-for-damage-and-bandage. My wife, however, would take longer to get to the bandaging stage because she would spent more time showing obvious sympathy.
Women try to make things better by relating emotionally, while men try to "fix things" in the physical realm first.
Anyway, that's my attempt at an explanation. Each of the sexes has a general predeliction toward the behavior you talked about.
Ha! As you can see, I analyzed your question instead of doing the feminine thing, which would be, "Gosh, you're right! I bet that makes you feel inadequate sometimes, huh? Well, don't worry, lots of us girls feel that way."
See what I mean?

Bored Lawyer IS So right. Let's think logically: ALL humans have feelings but how much feelings involve a decision depends on the person, their experiences/background, and their personality and temperament. Men may have more experience thinking logically, but that is not ALWAYS the case, as some Men are more emotional, JUST as Woman may feel more about a situation rather than a Man, but that IS also not always true, it depends on who are involved, and how the situation affects THEM. From my experience, a lot times guys can "act" as if they situation does not effect them, but this is just an act, we all have feelings and just because someone can see past that to a think about other things is NOT always a good thing, think about certain careers where Feelings AND LOGIC are necessary and not just plain Logic: i.e. Parents! JUDGES! DOCTORS! Customer Service Reps! and of course there are Jobs where you need to put Logic first but it still must be carefully balanced with feelings , Lifeguard,
School Principal/College Dean, Dentist, Scientist, Lawyer ...
The truth is whether if a person has Logic or Feelings in a situation, it depends on the situation and they persons involved whether that is truly advantageous.

Although research has shown that there is a difference in the way the male and female brains are wired, I don't think that it inherently affects logical thinking. My girlfriend is the most brilliant person I know. She graduated summa *** laude with a mechanical engineering degree, then graduate with honors again with a psychology degree and is about to start law school. I feel like a schmuck compared to her.
I think that the stereotype of women acting on emotions and not logic can be traced to the different ways that society views men and women starting from the time they are babies. Women are expected by societal forces to act emotionally, men are expected to act logically. However, this is NOT the case a lot of times. Increasingly, nowadays, more women are beginning to pursue careers in science, mathematics, and law so the stereotype seems to be slowly fading away.

Actually, this has been written about in psychology text books, I read them in college. This is a generalization and not facts. It is believed that since women have many connections between the two sides of their brains, they reason by going by feelings since they have analyzed things many times between the two sides. Of course, I am reducing down the big terms into a quick answer here. Men, having one connection between the sides, rely on the facts as they don't analyze as much.
Of course, I am a male and my brain over analyzes things because of other outside stimuli. This is why it is just a generalization only to give you only possible background to look inside the mind of someone else.

That is a stereotype and inaccurate. I've known lots of women with very strong reasoning ability, and a quick look through this website should convince you that men do not "always think so logically."

I think that this is the way they are raised to be. In the past, young boys have been taught to hide their emotions, while young girls are encouraged to display them. A young boy who falls is often told to stop crying and be a man, while a girl would often be babied and held. This sexism in childrearing is becoming less common, but still occurs very frequently. As a result, boys often forget how to display "girly" emotions or rather learn how to hold them back, while girls express them externally and obviously.
