Because his wealth comes from the oil industry.

Because he doesn't control the prices, the prices are controlled by OPEC who sets the price of a barrel. Add to the fact that now china is modernizing and demands a lot of oil, the demand is going up. Simple law of supply and demand. We have a limited supply of oil, the demand is increasing, prices will go up. There is very little you can do about it in the short run.

Also, I have a friend who works for Marathon petroleum, right now our refineries are maxed out because environmentalists have put up a lot of red tape to be able to build a refinery. They recently have been able to start building new ones, but they won't be online until 2010. So don't expect to see prices drop too much until then.

Hope this helps

Uh, because there's a worldwide market where price is set by supply and demand?
So you think we should have the government, which is notorious for waste and stupidity, oversee the refining industry? Some dummkopfs in Congress have proposed this.
Silly silly people.
Here's a fun fact: Close to half the cost of a gallon of gasoline is state taxes. Don't hear about that on the news, now do you?

minus he is, but it takes time to develop it. People aren't going to go out and buy a $70,000 hydrogen car because it's way too expensive, and it's not practical. We have to develop the technology first, which bush is funding, and he opened up federal reserves, and he is trying to lessen the emissions standards to eliminate the expenses of "designer gasolines." The bush administration is doing a lot more than you think to help curb gas prices, including the taxes on it.
I'm sorry the media doesn't report this to you, but it doesn't mean bush isn't doing anything.

I am not sure of your question? Bush is suppose to be doing soemthing to lower the price of gas? Well he's been working with the Saudis for years now to get the price of gas in the US up to world averages.

I don't know, fear? But the rest of the government isn't doing too much either.

He could set a price for gas, and force the oil companies to meet that if he wanted. It's a national emergency. He has that power.

Ultimately though, we need to cut our dependence on oil. My question is why we can't follow Brazil's lead and mandate dual-fuel cars and get us onto ethanol?

The service stations will not give him the key & private oil companies can not be controlled even by the President. Congress could make laws. Wait they did, that is how NC got the 30.5 cents a gallon gas tax.

And what is he suppose to do, invade Iran now.

Oil price is set by free enterprise system, there are many nations bidding and making contracts for the oil, it goes to the highest bidder in general.

Next he can not order the companies to drill off shore, or drill in Alaska ( congress won't let him)

He can't do anything, it is not in his power

The oil and gas industry is a legitimate business that can raise and lower their prices as they see fit. There is nothing Prez Bush can do.

The prices of homes are presently very high. Should "Busg" lower the value of your home. Why do you capitalize all the first letters of each word? I would go back to your English teacher and ask her why she let you pass.

Are people really so naive and gullible so as to believe that the President has that much power? What do you think, he runs the economy while controlling supposedly free markets (a little contradiction in terms, eh?)

Get real people.
