To claim that soccer is boring and overrated is not only ignorant, but also ludicrous. What is the secret of the love affair of the world with soccer you ask? Because ANYONE can play and watch soccer. Its affordable, relatively easy to understand and play and can be played anywhere in the world under any circumstances. Kids play soccer in poor areas, war zones and even wars stop when national football pride comes into play. Soccer transcends cultural, economic, social and language borders. It is the common language by which billions of people worldwide identify with. It is the one voice that brings people together. Most people in the world can recognize the word: GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL when they hear it! That is why people love the world cup.
Some North Americans though claim that it is boring and unexciting because it doesnt have much action! Action??? Well compared to hockey, I guess maybe not, but do all people like to be immersed in action 100% of the time? Is 100% action the goal of sports?? Is it a necessity to liking a sport? Do all sports have to have the same level of pleasure and purpose??
I think that you are in the minority in thinking soccer is overrated, but your feelings are shared by many mainly in North America. Why? Because they were never good at it and North Americans dont like things that they don't excel at. It is natural to not like things that you dont see often and that you dont know much about. I think that the only people who would think Soccer and the World Cup are overrated and boring are either those who don't understand soccer, those who were not raised in the midst of football culture, a mix of both or jealous hockey jockeys ..hehe.. On a more serious note, Soccer is a great game. A game that can further bridge the gaps in communication and build the bridges of understanding and friendship amongst nations so lets water this game more and more in order to cultivate a better place in this globe.

Someone thinks that soccer is overrated so a bunch of idiots make anti-American remarks. Lots of Americans enjoy the sport. In the same token, lots of Americans don't like American football, basketball, baseball,etc... Sports should bring people together, not drive them apart. Everyone is entitled to an opinion. Some people believe that the U.S. is the greatest, most powerful nation in the free world. Happy Independence Day to all.

dude- the USA MEN'S TEAM has NEVER, and NEVER WILL win a world cup, of ANY KIND (unless it's a cup for invading countries and starting wars) so from the get-go, your facts are wrong.
What you see in Germany are the 32 FINAL countries, Mr. Wiseguy. The competition involves the ENTIRE WORLD, divided into elimination tournaments that take 2-3 years to complete, based by geographical areas (Asia, Africa, Europe, etc...)
so, it is TRULY A WORLD CHAMPION, that wins the cup,
NOT like the "fake" baseball, and basketball WORLD champs in the USA.
The WORLD SERIES - Boston vs. St. Louis is NOT the world (well, maybe to Americans). LMAO!!!
I think the real reason that you and other Americans are so hostile to FOOTBALL - that's the real name - is that the US SUCKS in international competitions. S-U-C-K-S !
1) Basketball, an American sport. These past Olympics, where the US pros played, who played the final? Argentina-Italy !!!
And the US? NOTHING!
2) Baseball, another American sport. The recent Baseball Classic, again where American pros played, what did the USA do? NOTHING. The final was Cuba-Japan.
ya wanna see boring? watch the National FELLATIO League - 2 SECONDS of action by steroid freaks, and then...NOTHING....talking, commercials, replays, analisys of the "great" play...blah, blah, blah...4-5 mins go by.
Then............again, 2-3 SECONDS....followed by......NOTHING.
Repeat for THREE HOURS! AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!
thanks, but no thanks! FOOTBALL is the WORLD GAME. As long as Americans think like you, well, you're never going to be liked in the world....sad, but true.
Join the rest of the world.

Soccer Overrated?? The only sport that makes the world stop in its track. The World Cup is the only sport in the World where teams go and represent their country's colors with pride, the only sport where your National Anthem is sang by all to hear. ITs amazing how "patriotic" we americans say we are, yet when THE most patriotic game comes calling we turn our backs.

Isn't because you can't play or understand it means the whole world are wrong about soccer being the greatest sports ever and only few ones whom can't be part of it be considered overrated.
There is actually a world beyond US, so it's time for USA become part of the world and integrate itself to the world. I bet americans will enjoy as much as the rest of the world when they win their first world cup.

I think so. What other sport can be so outright boring and yet have a crowd so excited? Excited enough to trample eachother over a score of 1-0 that took hours to decide. A scoreless tie is truly a magnificent feat as well.

I think it's only overrated to Americans. Other countries probably don't get our obsession over football.
