Please help trace path of problem-electrical? Mechanical? Choke housing on side of carb with 1 lt. grey(blue)? wire to connector that has 1 pnk/blk wire from other end going to shared rubbery connector with grn/blk wire that plugs into front of carb mount? Grn/blk wire from snap-in connector on ? screwed into/mounted on intake manifold in front of carb? What are these parts? Do they affect choke? How do I know if elect. assist? Can't find any hot air tubes to choke housing. Can anyone step me thru trouble shooting for a cause?

What makes you say the choke is closing? Is it closed when you take off the air cleaner? Hate to answer with a question but I can not see the choke. This truck has the throttle body carb.If the truck idles then dies when you put it in gear I would have to think it is fuel pressure maybe a plugged fuel filter or bad fuel pump. If the choke is closed when it stalls than replace the Oxygen Sensor. Under hood, center, lower engine area. Mounted on lower side of engine in exhaust manifold. I would check fuel pressure first should be 4-5psi.
Good luck

don't listen to the two fools ahead of me, no O2 sensor on the vehicle and no throttle body until 88 on this truck.
with the ignition key in the run position 12v should be at the choke wire. start here if no power trace circuit if it has power the choke filement might be burned out and not opening because of age. replace it and make proper adjustment by the notches on the housing.
the parts you mentioned are part of the choke system. they work with the temp sensor on the intake. this is a voltage system and not mechanical (no hot air tube) check your wires and trace the circuit if you have power change the choke element

dont know if this will help but it is funny Listen to Scout he got it right.

KJ.....

run you a test lead from battery positive
to the choke .....just to make sure it's
capable of working before you do anything.

Push down on the throttle plate ...trying to
open it, see if it feels like it has resistance
to it.

Start the truck.......make sure the throttle
plate is still closed (choke is working)....

As the truck warms up....you will see the
throttle plate start to open as the thermal
spring in the choke is heated by the
engine.

If the choke is capable of working....
simply run you a 12 volt feed off of an ignition
switch "run" circuit.

You're finished.....have a beer.

If the choke doesn't work....rob the one off
your other truck for now.

it may be the oxygen sensor which I assume it has.this could be found in the exhast manifold just behind the engine & may look like a spark plug. I can get you this far but it may need a pro to test/replace it need special tool
