Probably Austin. Blues and country are huge there. In Nashville, country and Christian contemporary have a home. The theres Boston with the Berklee school. A lot of music styles including jazz thrive there. And then theres Chicago where urban blues got started as well as being big with rock.

I lived in Austin for almost twenty years, and if there is a place in the world with the best musical diversity, it's Austin. There is a reason why it's the "live music capitol of the world". They have everything there, on any night of the week. I miss Austin something awful.

I know this may sound crazy but some of the best local bands I have heard live have come from Des Moines,IA or at least that is where I saw them
But Indy is good
and Chicago is better

i'd definatley not say sacramento! I stay in elk grove/sacramento (their excellent next to at least one yet another) and bypass to SF really a lot each and every weekend...SF has a competent song scene yet not the merely excellent, theirs to many those who smoke, bums, and an awesome act is unusual on the streets XD
