There's an old saying...."you can paint a turd, but it's still a turd."

DATA plate will have the paint codes and such. Vin as rath suggested will only frustrate the parts man. As far as doing it yourself? Well, if you lack confidence, I would work my way up to it before tackling such a project. First, I would check if you can even legally paint where you are at. It might have to be done in a professional paint booth. If you run HVLP systems like my restoration shop, it really makes a difference. There is a lot to a good paint job, but then again, it really isn't all that bad. Confusing? I don't mean to be. Just remember, its just a car, its just paint. If you try and fail, learn from it and try again. Think of it this way, I charge a minimum of $6'000 for any paint job that comes into my shop. I only take a selected clientele. At any rate, just think how many times you can try and fail, till you finally succeed. I bet you will still get it done cheaper than a pro shop. You really can't ruin anything by trying. Worst case scenario, you end up taking it to the body shop anyway. But if you succeed, well.....

hi, this is a common problem for those cars back then. I'll even bet that you have gray primer showing through and if not in to bad of shape, big chunks are missing. I know this because I am an old bodyman and had to paint alot of these. I would highly recommend going to a shop and have them do it for you because you really need to strip off that blue paint completely. The reason why is that even though you still may have some blue paint on the car, it is also about ready to come off anyway and if you don't strip it, you'll be throwing away your money and time if you paint over it. good luck, Gramps

Do yourself a favor, and take it to a paint shop. (never try and paint a car yourself, you don't have the dust free enviorment that a paint booth can offer. One speck of dust and your paint can start chipping off again in as little as a week.

It's possible to do it yourself.. Take the VIN number to a dealer and check on the color of paint, and buy a small touchup bottle/can.

If you have a LOT of "touchups", you're probably better off sanding the car and repainting it (any color) or taking it in to be repainted.

If you have no prior experience in painting, you need to do yourself a favor and take it someplace.
