I don't know, but did you know where the word pumpernickel comes from. During the time of Napoleon, he was visiting a German bakery and was presented with this type of dark hard bread. The bakers asked him if he liked it, and he replied, "mais non, it is bon pour Nicole" what he was referring to was it was terrible and only good for his horse Nicole.
