It is always about the vast power of the White House. It is the most powerful political position in the entire world. It is very sad that we lack any dynamic leadership from either party. It's not a Democrat vs Republican thing. Bush wanted to invade Iraq and got approval from both parties, none of which would ever have considered giving their lives for their country. They are willing to give someone elses lives, though.
