First of all there's a great sense of community here. If you live 20 miles out in the suburbs, you still say "I'm from Chicago". I lived in the New York City suburbs and never once said "I'm from New York".

People are generally friendly, good neighbors and there's a solid Midwestern values-oriented ethic (if you know where to look for it). Long-suffering Cubs fans are more common on the north side and in the soccer-mom suburbs. Gloriously happy Sox fans are more predominant on the south side and among the blue-collar crowd. But the Bulls, Hawks and especially "da Bears" are universally loved. And regardless of how hapless the Cubs are, a warm, sunny afternoon at Wrigley Field is unforgetable.

The city is a great place to live, especially for younger singles. The near north side is popular...lot's going on. And there are great close-in neighborhoods undergoing gentrification in all directions now. There are endless choices for great restaurants, and it's easy to get around using public transportation.

You'll find lots of opportunity for cultural enrichment as well... great universities, museums, theater, sports and music venues. Shopping is amazing. A stroll down State Street window shopping at Christmastime is a memorable experience. (Dress warmly!) Spring, summer and fall, the lakefront beaches, marinas and parks are on everyone's short list.

Chicago is America's business center. Most careers will include a stop, if not a final destination, in Chicago. There are numerous major national trade shows downtown at McCormick Place and near O’Hare airport at Rosemont. Chicago is a major transportation hub. You can fly non-stop almost anywhere.

The city of Chicago is a Democratic stronghold and there's a strong union-supported, blue-collar voting block that perpetuates that. On the downside, we have more than our share of political patronage and corruption in Illinois and Chicago.

Oh, and one other downside: buy a parka, and a snow blower. You'll need them (the winters are too long!)

It's huge has a lot of traffic issues, is expensive to live in, gas is even higher there than everywhere else. Has a lot of nice places to go, but I woiuldn't wanna live there it is too big, has a lot of crome and gangs, and so on. But I'm sure there are good neighborhoods and if you got plenty of money then it'll be okay for you. Lake Michigan is a place where people swim a lot there. There is the Museum of Science and Industry which is a great place to go and there are many other nice attractions as well.
