I take it this affects women more than men.
to answer your question, i dont think the media would change anything about how we look, with the exception of posers.

But in that effect, if the media was completely out of the picture anyway... people would be forced to talk to their neighbor or ... i dont know... talk to someone for a change.

A world without media influence would have to all the sudden find their own individual identities. In theory... this sounds very good, but since t.v. has been passed down for atleast a generation as the family babysitter... the practicallity of removing tv would result in alot of bewildered people who dont know what they are doing...
not to the level of chaos, but realistically i would say there would be alot of people having mental breakdowns and needed psychological help because parents and children simply wont know what to do without tv, or rather they wouldnt handle it very well, possibly resulting in dependency issues and a LOSS of identity.

So I really think their will be a dichotomy... like the seperation of hte middle class monetarily.

people will gravitate towards one extreme or another, less middle ground. some will lose their identity and others will gain it

Goodluck,

LOL!!! Did you see the Manchurian Candidate??? The media has something to do with that kind of mind manipulation. We are all pre-program to form some kind of unity someplace in time- its all up to the ....to make it happen, like mass media, war, (that place where ppl goes on Sunday religiously and gather) Starbucks, or your neighboring crack houses, silly rabbit-LOL. Like the folks that tells us certain signs are compatible than others. Fashion never existed before the 80's like it is now, duh. talk about tampering with Godly ideas. Like, some ppl have pre-arraigned time clocks to become killers, rapist and company executives etc... Some of those folks had a chemical unbalance and decided instead of going to WAR to stay on the streets or work for big companies. The media, States etc are basically here to lend a helping hand as to what we are created to do and to see it happen-HOPE THEY DONT COME FOR ME, darn chat rm. So be glad you came from that batch to be a fashionestas, like Paris h. Be grateful your not off fighting war at the age of 18.

When was the last time your heard of hermaphrodites instead we have cross- gender. When it first started ppl were being born left and right with both Virgin as and Pen is. Now too, its "i was born to be a girl but i feel like a boy etc... Media attention, duh!!!!

LOL. if one person speaks about it-they are crazy. If a group speaks about it-well its taken notice. If the media pre-edited stuff shows on National Tele its true.%)

Never gonna happen . . .

But if it did, we would end up with a lot more illegal activity by the government.

Ideally, the press is supposed to offset the extreme power of the government by being the watchdog.

Instead, they have turned into a self-interest propoganda machine.

The best action in this present scenario is to teach people how to analyze the media and make their own decisions.

The best thing to do in this situation is to look at art from the Middle Ages and the Renaissance. Women aren't extremely thin in those paintings but are still considered beautiful. Being too thin then was looked at as a flaw. You don't see the Mona Lisa wearing make up or looking gaunt.

It isn't just the media doing it. It is ordinary people wanting everyone to look like supermodels. The media just overexposes it.

Our society would be more focused on things like education, the economy, philanthropy, politics. It wouldn't be about what J-Lo wore last week or who Shakira is currently dating.

There would be other ways of dictating how we should look. Think about it. How did people long before the modern media dictate fashion and beauty? There was and will always have an ideology telling us how we should look.

The media allways tells us what to think. Thomas Jefferson said that he felt a lot better for never reading newspapers.

Perhaps a little more variety... no fear to hold us back.. what's acceptable, what's not... otherwize... the natural look would be nice... less plastic.
I think humans naturally compete.. and will always have a "standard" perhaps in smaller groups in this case.. but it would still be there.

if you let the media dictate to you how you should look, or anything else, I feel sorry for you.

Our society would have much more money to delegate to more appropriate forms of commerce...
