It depends. Pick one that you can set on the seat and have both feet on the ground. As far as motor size I would go with a 650 or smaller depending on your body size. Kawasaki made a 440 that would be a perfect street bike to learn on. For dirt bike I'd go for the KDX200. They also used to make a dirt street bike bake then, but dual purpose bikes generally have some limits that limit them in their on and off road performance.

Yes! The KZ 650 is the only way to go. Its just a little big for a beginner, but its powerful enough that you'll keep it for years.

Late 70's Kawasakis are just awesome bikes - like late 60's Triumphs. If you're looking at one of those then you've got excellent taste! :-)

KZ 400 or KZ 440 LTD.
The first bike I ever rode and the bike I learned to ride on was a KZ 400. Great biginner bike.

KZ 400, hands down. I had one when I was 16 and weighed 135 lbs soaking wet. Great little bike, cafe racer-ized mine and I thought I was so cool.
