If you like dystopic novels, like Uglies, then The Giver by Louis Lowry (also Gathering Blue and/or The Messenger) might be of interest.

So Yesterday is a realistic fiction novel by Scott Westerfeld about popularity and trends, etc. It is a good read too.

Or you might want to try to track down the story that started it all--"Liking What You See: A Documentary" by Ted Chiang. It was after reading it in STORIES OF YOUR LIFE AND OTHERS, that Westerfeld became inspired to write his trilogy.

Adult science fiction books that might be of interest to you are George Orwell's 1984 or Orson Scott Card's Worthing Saga.

Yes. Try Shannon Hale...she wrote The Goose Girl and Enna Burning, plus she has a new book, River Secrets, out this fall.

Love Libba Bray, but I've never read anything by Scott Westerfield.
