I posted this in Medicine as well.. I hope I get more answers here.. A person I know said the mark on her neck was an insect bite that she didnt know about. I didnt ask further but I looked terribly like a hickey. I really don't care about her personal affairs, just wondering if there ARE any insect bites that look like hickies.

Spider bites. And they can be very, very dangerous.
(But I would go with the hickey prognosis.)

It depends on how the body reacts and what type of venom the insect has. If it is a 'bite' (performed by the mouhparts) it may look like a bruise, since it is a pinching of the skin. If it is a sting (performed with the back part of the body) and has a neurotoxin venom, it won't, since that affects the brain and the nervous system. If it s stung by a insect with a necrotoxin, then it might look like a bruise at the beginning, but then it will turn into a scab that will not heal... she should get medical attention immediately, since it can get infected.

Lyme disease which is a bite from a deer tick. It is a red circle that can vary in size, which some think looks like that and can cause a great deal of suffering months after the bite. My daughter is allergic to mosquitoe bites and they turn red and swell sometime as large as a 2 inch circle. So it very well might be a bite!

Deer tick bites are often described as resembling bullseyes, and they kind of look like a hickey. There is a danger of lymes disease with this bite.

I'll use that one next time I get busted with a hickey. Got one for claw marks on your back where she knows you can't reach?

sime mosquito bites can look like one if you have a reaction. Wasps and such too.

But know one would not be aware of it. If they get bit by bug or person they will be very aware of it.
