I think it depends on the environment that they are used to. I think that everyone becomes a little bit more aware of dangers when they are in an unfamiliar environment.

Here's the thing.. if women had to be concerned with their personal safety all the time, they would never go anywhere or do anything.. and lets not even think about doing it alone. I could walk out onto my porch and get mugged or shot.. so it doesn't really matter what a person does to be concerned about their personal safety.. something could happen anyways.

I think women are concerned about their personal safety, but sometimes when something bad happens, it makes us take a more careful look at what we're doing and how we're behaving.
I've had a couple of frightening experiences - like getting attacked by a knife wielding purse snatcher - which has made me think twice about going in deserted areas by myself. I was altogether too naive in being where I was, so now I'm a lot more careful. And I pay more attention to my surroundings and who is in them.

I never go out alone at night. I am always very aware of my surroundings. You can never be too safe because there are criminals and perverts everywhere.
