the 60s...the "black and white" of the fifties gave way to tie-died flower power and all manner of psychedelia (and psychedelics!). The Conservative Eisenhower Administration gave way to the fashionable Kennedy Administration (even if too briefly). The Beatles re-wrote the "charts" record books and created a mania only seen before in Elvis. "Boss Radio" was unleashed on AM in SoCal on '93-KHJ',May, 1965 (with the "Real" Don Steele, "Humble" Harve Moore, Robert w. Morgan, Charlie Tuna, etc.) The Monkees were a "band" created for TV to be America's answer to the Beatles! Pirates of the Caribbean opened in 1967 and the Haunted Mansion in 1969 at Disneyland.
Also in 1967: the Monterey International Pop Festival became the granddaddy of rock festivals (with the debuts of Janis Joplin, and the US starts for The Who and Jimi Hendrix), and in 1969 the Woodstock Music and Art Fair was a 3-day home for half-a-million! While all this good was going on, so was the bad: Vietnam, assassinations of Medgar Evers, Malcom X, MLK, and the kennedys. A fan was knifed to death by a Hell's Angel at the Stones' free Altamont concert.Just touching the tip of the iceberg here, but it was the 1960s where IT ALL HAPPENED-the good, the bad, and the ugly (including my fave Eastwood western made in Italy in 1966!). 60s RULE!!
