I assume your primary concern is the heat, since it is an air cooled bike, and you specify hot weather, and that the light is 3 minutes long.

Frankly, I wouldn't worry about it. The bike is designed to work under those types of conditions, and like some of the others said, it might not want to start right back up for you.

Just let it idle... like someone said, you never know when you might have to move in a hurry.

Cheers!

If you are going to be sitting for more than 30 seconds just idling, then go ahead and turn it off - it takes about as much fuel to idle for 30 seconds as it does to start the engine. It may, however, be much safer in the case of a red light to keep the bike running, because those in cars behind you aren't looking for you and may hit you if you are not out of the way quickly.

Idle. Who turns off the car at a red light?

Idle. I don't think that I have ever heard of anyone turning the bike off at a red light

3 minutes? Air cooled I assume? Idle is best. Starting and stopping the engine a lot can starve it of pressure fed oil.

Regardless of weather or timing, it's always easier on your engine and gas mileage to idle rather than killing the engine.

Idle. If I was behind you and I had to wait for you to re-start your car when the light turned green I'd get out and jam a pipe up your @ss!

Idle. That way, if you need to get out of the way of something, all you need to do is ease off the clutch and go.
