Central YMCA near the main station is fab - very clean, cheap, range of rooms (can get private rooms for a couple etc) and has a fab cafe attached. It's about 20 mins on the bus from the beaches in the Eastern suburbs, and about 20 mins walk from all the darling harbour / circular quay attractions.

G,day!..best OZ web site is www.wotif.com.au it has loads of discounted accomodation etc...try and get somewhere close to the rocks area..that way you will be in walking /close distance to most everything...things to do ?..have a beer at the Orient hotel in the rocks..take the harbour bridge climb..take a ferry to manly and taronga zoo...the opera house and a few drinks In Kings cross...then fly up to Queensland and come out on my tour boat..lol..have a great stay mate!

Hey.. Staying in the city (sydney) isnt cheap.. You would be best off staying just outside of sydney say Edgecliff, kings cross etc.. as they will have cheaper hotels and you can get everywhere by train.. Edgecliff and Kings cross is only 3 stops from central (sydneys biggest station)
