You need a spark to ignite the CNG. You can convert a gasoline engine to CNG, but not a diesel!

Possible perhaps...... I would just worry about the difference in power/BTU. Number 2 fuel oil (diesel) has about 140,000 BTU per gallon. Natural gas... I believe about 1,200 BTU per cubic foot. So you may get low performance/HP and bad mileage. With Mods.... might work though. I have thought about converting a car to run on LP gas. Has more BTUs. (About 91,000 per gallon) But LP is also pricey now adays.
?Why would you need a spark? The heat of compression should be sufficient to ignite CNG.

particular, you are able to layout a diesel engine to run on virtually something that burns. Examples of fuels that have been utilized in diesel engines incorporate: accepted diesel oil (i.e. No.2 distillate oils), kerosene, methanol, ethanol, organic gas, sewer gas, landfill gas, LPG. Hydrogen should not be a situation as long because of the fact the engine is designed for it.

because cng is highly compressible so unless if your diesel has a high compression ratio if not i don't think it will ignite
