Providing for the common good. Starving children and people too poor to eat or buy medicine are an invitation to disease and unrest.
It's a pragmatic thing, not a religious thing.

That's the trouble with conservatives - penny wise and pound foolish.

THAT'S NOT WHAT THEY SAY. What they say is "You can't Legislate MORALITY."

And that is true. Just by passing a law you can not make someone follow it. Otherwise everyone would be MORAL rofl which as we all know they are not!

Morals and Morality are different. You have morals or you don't, or you have a certain amount of Morals. However, Morality is "a conformity to the rules of RIGHT CONDUCT." So while Morals can be the basis of your conscience, Morality is whether your going to run that red light ahead.

You can not legislate morals, but you can give the kids the green light to go down that path.

It is called "welfare" and there is nothing moral about stealing from those that are successful. Liberals wouldn't know what morality was even if it slapped them in their egg shaped face!

well... it's called taxation and taking care of those in poverty...

while you may call taxation a moral issue... I don't consider it one... I think that's a bit of a stretch...

every law is a moral of one level or another,

murder, theft, rape, child abuse, are all moral issues
