If you have your XP installation CD, put in in the drive and if it 'auto-runs', just Exit the window that appears.

Then click START - RUN - and type sfc /scannow and hit OK.

What happens is this: If any system files needed by Windows to function properly have been corrupted or are missing - this

method will overwrite/replace them. (if you have no CD, borrow one from a friend as it will still work).
When done, locate your C: drive in Windows Explorer (start - run and type EXPLORER) and the Windows Explorer window will

open. In the left panel, click the + sign to the left of My Computer and you will see the 'Local Disk C: drive.
Right click on C: drive and select 'properties'. Select the Tools tab at the top and in the first section (Error Checking)

click Check Now button.
Next put a tick in both the boxes in the small dialog box which appears. Then Start. A msgbox will appear - choose YES.

Restart PC and go to bed - it may take an hour or so depending on the size of your hard-drive.
Windows will start automatically when the error checking is done.

Open Internet Explorer - goto TOOLS - INTERNET OPTIONS... and from there delete COOKIES, FILES and CLEAR HISTORY. Also, set

History to keep for 1 day.

Run a Spyware remover program such as Spyware Doctor or Adaware - free download from here:
http://www.download.com and follow your nose through the website to find, or simply search Google for them.
Install the Spyware and run - ok, that's it!

I guarantee this will do the job - let me know if it does not and I will give up my IT job and become a road-sweeper!

Windows has a scandisk utility that will scan your computer and fix errors that it discovers.

Go to my computer, right click on C: and select properties. Under the tools tab should be a place where it says error scanning.

livingforjesus231 is right except be care full. Registry files are very tricky. You delete the wrong ones and you will most likely be restoring your computer fresh.
