Now that we've got all our little snide lawyer comments out of the way...
Lawyers are licensed experts in the laws of this country. As such, they are the first rank of protectors of the public from illegal and/or abusive actions from others.
A large amount of money has been poured into defaming lawyers and the ability of the public to sue for redress of injury.
This advertising effort actually cons people who have never been sued (and likely never will) to give up their rights to recieve compensation for damages they may recieve as a consumer.
That lawyers usually contribute to Democrats also figures heavily into the anecdotal 'frivolous suit pays millions' tales that are spread about. Go look at urban legends . Most frivoulous cases are stopped very early, and when large awards are not later reduced to a more reasonable level, they prove to be well deserved.

My insurance agent and i were talking about lawsuits. He told me a lady tripped on the sidewalk going into his office. She got a lawyer and sued him not in the county it happened or where she was a resident. Here lawyer sued in a neighboring county where the judgments are usually higher. She won a judgment of $80,000 dollars. She only sprained he ankle.
