Raphael Ravenscoft, according to Wikipedia.

"Baker Street" is a song by Gerry Rafferty written in 1978 during his break from the band Stealers Wheel. The song was featured on his successful solo debut album, City to City and released as the first of three singles, marketed primarily to Adult Contemporary radio. The saxophone hook on the original was played by Raphael Ravenscroft. A venerable urban legend falsely attributes the hook to television presenter Bob Holness. The guitar solo was played by Hugh Burns.

The song was successfully covered in 1992 by Undercover (not to be confused with the Christian rock band of the same name), who reached #2 in the United Kingdom with their rendition. The Foo Fighters released the song as a B-side to their 1998 single, "My Hero," and scored a minor hit on rock radio with their cover. Other artists who have covered the song include country artist Waylon Jennings, rock artist Rick Springfield, folk artist Livingston Taylor, and heavy metal band Carnival in Coal. Dance versions of the song have been made by Leif Benjamin and DJ Octopus.

Gerry Rafferty's version of the song also features on the soundtrack of the 1997 Gus Van Sant film Goodwill Hunting.

The song is also featured in The Simpsons episode "Lisa's Sax," with Lisa Simpson playing the familiar saxophone solo at the end of the show.

Hope this answers your question! Good question by the way!

RAPHAEL RAVENSCROFT

Raphael Ravenscroft has played for artists ranging from Marvin Gaye to Pink Floyd. “Baker Street” is his most well known saxophone solo. In 1979, Ravenscroft recorded a solo album, Her Father Didn’t Like Me Anyway. He has also performed with Chris Rea, Ian Gomm, Alvin Lee, Robert Plant, ABBA, Kim Carnes, Red Rider, Mike Oldfield, Roger Waters, Willie & The Poor Boys, and Phil Collins’ Brand X, in addition to two more LPs with Gerry Rafferty. In 1990, Ravenscroft also published a successful instruction book, The Complete Saxophone Player.

Legend tells us that the solo on Baker Street apparently happened by accident. The part was originally written for guitar and Raphael was booked to play just a short introduction on soprano saxophone. When the guitarist did not show, Raphael said he had an alto sax in the boot of his car and why not try it with him playing the solo. Ravenscroft played the part not really expecting it to become the standout track from the album which made him famous.
