Only if you want to keep your job....I think you should refuse....get fired...and then hire a lawyer to plead your case in unemployment court! Stick by your guns and refuse their tyrannical demands....power to the people!.....and the rich lawyers.

Why would you want to make an issue out of something so simple? Print your name on the card and initial it with your signature, and then choose something worthwhile to stand up for. Life's too short and the work day - in terms of adult years - is too long. Legally, perhaps no. Personnel, at-will employment??? Yes, they can ask you to comply and legally terminate you for not doing so (insubordination).

They can require you to print your name beside, above or below your signiture if you can't read your writing.

A signature is just that, in some cuture ( I know Indian *eastern) they merley have some lines and figures, but that is how they sign,

If you don't add a printed line, then if your pay is held up from paycheck to paycheck, it will be your fault.

It does not matter If your legal signature is accepted by your bank and by your government; your employer can ask you change to change whatever they want. After all, they are paying you to work for them, so you must do what they ask or they can fire you. Off the clock, you can do what you wish, but since you are not working for yourself, and because you most likely want to keep your job, you should do as they require.

If it is a locally generated document for internal and not legal purposes, then Yes, they can tell you exactly how to sign.

If it is for legal purposes, then No, they can not tell you how to sign. However, a signature must be legible. Defined by being able to read each letter.

So why not just print your name twice and say "that" is your new-and-improved signature?

I think the first responder is correct in that they can't "force" you to change your signature... and if you are reprimanded or terminated for refusing to change it, I'd bet that anyone in labor law would agree that a wrongful-termination suit would be appropriate.

Tell them no way! Legally, a big, fat, green X would suffice as your signature. Besides, I would have NO idea what my doc's name is if I didn't see it on the sign outside LOL

No, the whole point in your signature is that.... well, is that it's YOUR signature. Now they can request that you print your name under your signature.
