... that's hilarious... many who watch the Daily Show are the people that didn't watch the news 20 years ago... that 18-30 year old group of people that usually doesn't watch the news... watches the Daily Show... and I bet the frequent watchers... vote frequently...
they are just upset because they see it's actually changing how people think... it's not as easy to just tell them lies and they believe it anymore...
I watch and I'm involved...
and I would consider it more accurate than Fox News... but that's not saying much

I used to watch it. I can't stand it anymore, I think Stewart is becoming a crass liberal hack. I think that he encourages cynicism. I don't think people who watch the show care about the news, it's not any kind of in depth coverage of anything.
It is a formula of one line of information+joke.
It can't be catagorized as even infotainment. People just watch it to get a laugh. At the same time, they promote their political ideology through the jokes. Because with a joke, it assumes the person who is the brunt of it is ridiculous and the joke maker is all knowing and all wise. Liberals (especially ivory tower liberals like Jon Stewart, i.e. NY/NJ liberals), are great at that. They automatically assume that their opinions are 100% fact. They can be very self -righteous and fascist in their own special way, which is ironic that they always accuse 'neo-cons' of the same sin.
I am an independant with liberal leanings and I get annoyed at the smug self-righteousness sometimes. i agree with them on other things and some of it is funny. But personally, I liked Craig Kilborne, the host before stewart, better. I thought he was a lot funnier.

Unfortunately, there are too many people out there that don't realize Jon Stewart's show is a parody - not the real news. I've met several people who actually believe what he reports as being the absolute truth and that is funny. I watch him from time to time - catch him when I can. I think he had a much bigger audience during the period before the national elections. He is obviously biased but he does "bash both sides" from time to time. He is an excellent host for his program

He muses. A regular viewer And who cares. I've been watching Saturday Night live with Chevy Chase although not as informative a mockery is better than the real thing. The real thing is scary and unintelligible.
20 and years ago all I had was the news at times. Or I was outside playing.

As we've discussed, I think using satire and humor to point out how ridiculous some of the things our government does is brilliant. It really sticks in someones mind when they realize their doubled over laughing at something because its TRUE. Occasionally John is a little too liberal for me. Jane made some good points about that.
OH YEA the question................. I think it helps people who normally wouldn't care any thing about politics. He simplifies it and makes it an approachable subject for people who would never watch c-span or the regular news.

He is definitely making politics more interesting. As long as he doesn't turn people off by coming across too cynically.
