I am interviewing for an Executive Assistant posistion and am wondering what kind of dress code I should be aware of? I have previously never worked as an assistant and only in business casual type places. Thanks all to who can help.

Dress up for the interview.

Visit a site like careerbuilder.com or monster.com. They have advice for interview situations.

going for the interview, don't wear pants even if they are dressy. Wear a nice skirt outfit that says this job is mine. Try to pick something out that has a light jacket. It just looks more professional when you add the jacket. Also, make sure what ever you choose isn't too low cut - a look like this could cost you the job. Shoes: Heels, not to high though. They need to be comfortable enough for you to walk around in and still able to keep your balance. Good Luck with the interview.

I can interview and get any Executive Assistant job in the country, have worked for Transamerica, Aurthur Andersen and two foreign embassies.

Here are three links to sort of give you an idea. Tailored pantsuits is the key no matter who tells you what. You just can't go wrong with a dark blue suit and a white, button up shirt, man or woman alike. Navy blue or black is best for an interview and be sure your shoes match the color of your clothes.

Be confident. Smile. Don't act like you know things that you don't. Say, "hi, my name is___" and give a firm handshake, look in their eyes and smile.

Sit still; don't fidget. Take a thoughtful pause before answering questions -- first to keep from blurting out something you'd rather not and secondly to appear like you're actually thinking. Relax and generally be yourself -- just the "self" that you hope to be at 35.

Try to know some things about the company before you go and come up with a question or two that you can ask. Leave questions about salary and vacation time for another time -- or for the HR department. Ask questions about your responsibilities, what is expected of you, what if any special needs your boss may have like keeping their schedule, fielding their email, arranging for catered meetings, coming in early on Mondays because Sheila is usually late. Ask if there is anyone who might be able to be your mentor just for the first few days as you learn where the copy machine is.

Make it clear that you would really like to grow long-term with the company and ask if there is a possibility that you might be given oportunities at managing a project or two as you get your feet on the ground and prove your ability.

If this job is just to tide you over before you do what you really want, don't mention it. No one wants to invest in someone who's leaving three months from now. Remember to thank them for their time.

If they don't hire you, don't give up. There are lots of Executive Assistant jobs available. A good plan "b" is temp services like Snelling and Apple One.

Hope this helps!

Depends on the place.

Your safe bet is, a business suit - male or female. Even if the workplace is casual, as for an interview, you should always go in respectable clothing. They will tell you to come casual next time if that's what they prefer.

Dress like a high paid lawyer. Can't ever look too nice in this situation. I'm thinking a swimsuit is out of the question.
