The Yankees are a great franchise and have the rings to back it up; however, that being said, I think there is one that is even better - the St. Louis Cardinals. Now I will admit that I'm biased in saying this because I have always been a huge Cardinals fan, BUT let me say this:

1) Few teams have fans that are as loyal and knowledgeable about the game as the Cardinals.

2) Shortly after arriving via trade McGwire, Edmonds, Rolen and countless others have all said that there is not a better place to play in all of baseball.

3) Finally, after discovering that he was traded to the Yankees in 1954 (I believe that was the year) Hall of Famer and long time Cardinal Enos Slaughter actually broke into tears. I have never heard of this ever happening before with any other franchise.

The New York Yankees, 1949-1953. Hard to argue with five consecutive World Series victories. That speaks both to success and endurance. Afterwards, they went on to appear in the World Series nine of the next eleven years, winning four more times.

Yes, there have been great stretches for the Cubs, the Tigers, the New York Giants and the Los Angeles Dodgers, but no team in any sport can match this performance, and only a handful, like the Montreal Canadiens, come close. (And I don't want to hear about basketball nonsense. Their season is nowhere near as grueling as baseball's is.)

I'm a die hard Cubs fan, which entails that I hate the Cardinals, Yankees, and White Sox. But to answer your question, without a doubt, it's the Yankees. No team has been as dominant not only in the MLB, but also in professional sports entirely. Besides their 27 or so WS championships, they've been a playoff team year in and year out. They're a sign of consistancy. Teams have always and will always look at the Yankees as a building block and measuring stick.

1988 Oakland Athletics. They were awesome. But, as a franchise for many years, I call the Yankees the best because of all of their World Series victories.

I hate to say this, as a Jays fan, but the NY Yankees are probably listed as the greatest of all time.

Burker King!

(it aint the yankees! No sir! all of their "so-called" 26 champions were all bought and were NOT earned the good old fashioned way---by hard work and determination).

St. Louis, Detroit, Cincinnati, Boston, Chicago (both teams) and others have a deep rich history....unlike the yankees whose heads were always so far up thier $*@&&$

As a White Sox fan, you would think I would say the sox...but of course I'm not going too. Also, since the Yankees have won all the championships, you would think I would pick them. I'm picking the Cardinals b/c they have had a lot of dominate players and they always seem to make the playoffs. It pains me to say that.

People keep answering "Checkers" & "Burger King" & "McDonalds". This is the baseball category, people! And as a baseball fan, I must say the Yankees, of course. Is there any other possible answer? I think not.
Go Yankees!
