John Wayne's finest movie and his finest piece of acting was done as the character Ethan Edwards in the film, "The Searchers".

He also did a tremendous job in a much earlier film, "The Quiet Man", playing Sean Thornton.

His role as Sgt. John Stryker in "The Sands of Iwo Jima" was very well done, as was Thomas Dunson from "Red River" and Nathan Brittles in "She Wore A Yellow Ribbon".

Many over look the fine work he did as Matt in "The Shepard of the Hills".

And of course, his first real breakout role as the Ringo Kid in "Stagecoach".

But still, "The Searchers" towers above all his other work.

John Wayne made so many great movies such as Stagecoach, it would be hard to pick just 1 of his movies, so here are my 3favorites in no particular order:
The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance {1962} with James (Jimmy ) Stewart, Vera Miles & Lee Marvin (as L.Valance.)
The Green Berets{1968} with David Janssen (T.V.'s The Fugitive.), Jim Hutton(T.V.'s Ellory Queen.),Patrick Wayne.( His son.),Jack Soo.(T.V.'s Hawaii 5-0.)Grorge Takei.( T.V.'s Star Trek & of course The ST/.Trk.Movies.)
The Shootist{1976} with Lauren Bacall, Ron Howard.( T.V.'s Happy Days.) Richard Boone, Hugh O'Brien, Harry Morgan.(T.V.'s M.A.S.H.) & his good friend Jimmy Stewart.
He was an Icon {THE DUKE.} & We'll never see another like him.
By the way he got the nickname Duke from his airdalel dog he owned & people just started calling him Duke as well because he went nowhere without Duke.( His beloved
dog.)

I don't know what the title is but it was John Wayne with a bunch of kids trying to get the cattle from one place to the next. He was great! I didn't know he was such a good actor. And I usually hate westerns. I also liked "The Quiet Man," too.

I like them all, but if I had to choose I'd pick She Wore A Yellow Ribbon.
