To be precise, neither one of these songs actually contains much of a guitar solo.
Having seen both these bands play live, in their original incarnation, I assure you that the long guitar pieces in both songs are the result of multiple guitars playing or sharing lead.
In Hotel California, the three principal guitar players each share a portion of the "solo" and then all play the last part in harmony.
In Freebird, there are three lead guitars, all playing at the same time. It was a unique element of Lynyrd Skynyrd's music.
Both are fine pieces of guitar work, but hardly "solo" pieces.

Hotel California is a not a solo. The correct terminology is a dual harmony lead. Free Bird, however, is a solo, as Allen Collins is playing most of the lead guitar part, with Gary Rossington contributing some harmony guitars towards the end.
My personal favorite solo is from Metallica's "One". It starts at about 5:45 into the song.

That's a tough one. I can play them both on guitar. Free bird is more basic and repetitive using what I call old school rock guitar and It's a must for all up and coming lead players. Hotel is way more melodic and complex. It took me a long time to figure it out by ear, where as Free Bird was fairly quick. I'll have to say it's a tie because they are both great leads in different ways.

Hotel Californias solo is more flowing, its like a melody itself. Free Birds solo is very high energy and gets you pumped. They're both great!
Hotel California gets my vote!

Hotel California is laid out well, well thought out harmonies. But Free Bird is very free spirited and it jams. One is more technical and the other alot of rock n' roll feel.
Some great Underrated solos are
Still the one by Orleans incredible phrasing NOT CLICHE
Moonage Daydream Bowie / Mick Ronson
Across the River Bruce Hornsby/ Gerry Garcia
Doctor my Eyes / Jackson Brown
yeah yeah I know all about Holdsworth, Satriani, Hendrix, Eric Johnson..... they are great , they just play alot I am talking about taste here! This is only my opinion do0n't bite my head off!

Free bird, but the best solo/solos are the ones on Shedding skin by Pantera or the solo on Empty Words by Death. True blue guitar shredders right there
