If you can't download any anti-virus software, this is going to be a bit tricky, but here goes.

Hit control+alt+delete, open up the task manager, and select the "processes" tab. Do a google search on each image name. If google says that it is malicious, end the process.

Next, from the start menu, select run, and type in "msconfig." Select the "Startup" tab. Google search for each of the items listed. Remove the check mark next to any that are malicious.

Reboot your machine.
Go to www.trend-micro.com and run their free online scan.
Go to www.lavasoft.com and download the free version of AdAware and run it. If you are still unable to rid yourself of the virus at this point, send me an email. There are other steps that you can take. I've killed more than my share of these things.

Antiviral. (free)

AVG free. Excellent protection available from: http://www.Grisoft.com

Don't use two antiviral products together as they may be incompatible. If your Antiviral trial has run out, then remove product from your computer and get the AVG installed.

Anti-spyware (all free)

Essential products are: Adaware SE from: http://www.lavasoft.com

Spybot SD http://www.safer-networking.org/en/spybotsd/index.html

Spywareblaster http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html

Windows Defender - from Microsoft downloads.

PC starter kit at download.com 20 of the best recommended programes for people new or less advanced in computers. Check all three pages, at bottom see Security/Tools/Fun

http://www.download.com/PC-Starter-Kit/2001-12350_4-0.html?tag=dir

C Cleaner.http://www.ccleaner.com/

This will tell you a lot about what is on your computer, such as running programmes, cookies, History, settings etc. and will help you clean up and remove unwanted items. Be careful how you use it as it is a very powerful programme and you should read the help index before you do anything with it.

Hope this information is of help to you and others.

If you can still connect to the internet, go to...

http://free.grisoft.com/doc/1

...and download AVG Free. If you can't connect, go to another computer at work or the library or something and download it, then burn it to a CD or put it on a memory stick. Take the disc/stick home and install the program. That's all I can really suggest at this point. Without knowing exactly what virus you have it's hard to suggest what you should do. Do you have any more information about what problems you're having?

Do a reinstall of your operating system. This wil lwipe your computer of it's current data, but it will also remove any viruses or malware. Then get a good virus scanner, spyware detector, and spyware blocker. A good firewall is a must as well.
