Let them go!

In some states it is illeagal to take turtles under 4" from the wild with out a permit. They may be cute now but honestly, I think they would do better out in the wild. If you do let them go put them back in the same area you found them. But if you want them to eat and are set on trying to raise them you need to give them the propper habbitat and lighting. After that you might have to buy live guppies to get them to eat. you are looking at a long term investment. They live many years and once captive you can not let them go. The snapping turtle will probably kill the painted eventually too so you need two tanks. The Painted turtle will need at least a 55 gallon aquarium as an adult and the snapper will need a home build pond. So please think before you act on an impulse and the animals suffer. Good luck.

When the snapper gets bigger he will eat the painted turtle. Let them go, if you want a pet turtle get one from a dealer that has been bred for that purpose. Aquatic turtles require a large amount of water, at mid 80's temp. UVB Basking lamps and a canister filtration system to live very long.

Snappers are not illegal to keep, at least not in my state, and there shouldn't be any need to call animal control. Feed them meal worms (get them at a pet place or bait shop) and leaves of lettuce, sometimes they'll also eat other veggies if you chop them up.... keep them in large fish tanks (separately) with about 3/4" of water at the bottom and give them big rocks so they have an island to sit on so they're not always wet (don't forget to clean their tanks)...if you want the turtles, keep 'em, don't listen to the hippies that are telling you to "let them free."

well i would not keep the snapper because they are dangerous he will snap and take Ur finger off.. i do not know the laws where you are at.. but here in pa we are allowed to have snappers.. but most people don't because they are so bad at snapping fingers off.. anyway in the mean time go get dried shrimp.. they sell it at pet stores.. mix that with floating pellets. they have different flavors at least my pet store as like 10 different flavors.. put them in water and throw the food in.. do not keep the snapper with the other turtle the snapper will probably try eating it.. keep the snapper in water.. i know they are water turtles i am not totally sure about the paint turtles.. but i have a side neck turtle and he loves the floating pellets and he will only eat in water.. good luck and enjoy your new pets

If its a snapping turtle get rid of it, do you not care about you kids palms ??!! They enhance up and would get very huge and they chunk very problematic, problematic adequate to take a small childs palms off ( say a 5 year olds finger) You didnt factor out something about having water for him...do you've water so he can swim and drink ?? i'd take him to the zoo on the on the spot ( in the adventure that they might even settle for a turtle that they dont understand if its healthful or not ) because to me my kids wellbeing and palms are extra significant than a turtle.

both of these are easy to keep and feed, the best food for them at this size are earthworms, when the snapper gets larger he can eat minnows, etc (these are their natural foods in the wild)
neither of these needs to (or will ) eat lettuce snappers are especially smart and will beg like a puppy when you approach
good luck

ITS illegal to catch herps in teh wild especially snappers i know that. snappers like fish though like minnows or soemthign i think. paints i have no idea. visit a petco and ask them what kidna food each eats. better to let them go though cos you coould get some major trouble man. Dont let them die!!!

Call animal control right away. You should not attempt to feed wild animals, paticularly the snapping turtle. It could take your hand off if you approach it the wrong way.

Snappers eat small bugs. For painters, go to www.turtlesale.com. They sell hatchling food.. Make sure where you live, you're allowed to keep them. We're not in Indiana..
