Is there any reason why homosexuals should not be allowed to marry that isn't based on Biblical teachings or personal bias? Every group, race, religion, and gender in this country has been discriminated against at some point in history. As recently as 1965, there were active laws in the U.S. prohibiting interracial marriage. How is this different, and why do we still allow it to happen?

That is the same argument they used in the 1960s. A judge in Virginia once ruled that if God wanted different races to procreate, He wouldn't have put them on different continents. Would you agree with this also?

It's also July, why are Republicans still in power? Because the midwest has enough voters to make fudging elections feasible. That's why. Democracy, by it's nature, doesn't try to do what's right as much as it tries to do what's popular. Ideally, people in general would prefer to do what's right, but lately we've seen that isn't always the case.

Maybe it should be run on a comparison basis. Homosexuality began it's integration into modern society in the sixties. Coincidentally around the same time that minorities were winning the fight for their civil rights. Perhaps the "man" decided that the minorities weren't as bad as gays, and let them go. What the gays need is someone that an alabama porch-warmer would consider worse, like French cirque performers! If French cirque performers started campaining for their rights, the man would be so preoccupied that he'd look at the homosexual community and decide to let it go. He'd say, "Sure, they're gay, but at least they aren't MIMES!" -Problem solved.

I'm not a Bush fan but I'm not too sure about the marriage part - oh God, I'm agreeing with Dubya!!!! - however, unlike our fearless leader I believe there should be some sort of "civil union" which would essentially be the same as marriage. Death benefits could be shared, insurance etc. They would have all the rights and privileges that married couples have, but it wouldn't officially be called a marriage.

Its no different really then interracial marriage and for a country that thinks of itself as being enlightened, the failure to recognize that those who are gay can love and care for one another just as much as can those who are heterosexual is ridiculous.

As long as Bush and the Republicans are in charge, nothing will ever get done. So, the first step has to be to get rid of the Conservative Republicans who run this country and elect those who are more enlightened.

If you mean have a commitment ceremony of some sort, no, there isn't. Why can't get they get married the same way heterosexuals can? Because that's not what marriage is. Here's the relevant definition of marriage, from Dictionary.com:

mar·riage ( P ) Pronunciation Key (mrj)
n.

The legal union of a man and woman as husband and wife.

It's right there in the dictionary. However, I do have a compromise solution. Legalize civil unions for gay couples, and any state that wishes to confer the same rights and benefits on them that they do to married couples are free to do so. Those that don't, while Article IV, Section 1 of the Constitution would require them to recognize the union, wouldn't be required to give them any special legal benefits. This way, gays could still have the same rights as married couples in states that choose to give them, and states that don't want to wouldn't have to.

that is not attack that is harassment. by using regulation employer's on the on the spot have a nil coverage meaning the first signal or grievance can get someone fired. You were fired for putting your palms on him by using pushing him away which will be seen an attack as you acted in a threatening way. doesn't seem honest as i'd evaluate what you probably did holding your self from threatening habit. i'd propose contacting a lawyer yet there gained't be a lot to bypass by using. it would want to boil right down to his note antagonistic on your note till there is documentation. yet i'm not a lawyer so perhaps there is something which will be finished to get your interest back or be compensated indirectly.

Because so many christians say that it goes against the "lords" word. Personally i don't know if i believe in god or not. But if god made everyone the way they are for a reason then he must have made "born gays" that way for a reason. A person can't help that they are atracted to thier own sex. Most Republicans believe in god and richer ways and the don't believe in gay marrage. I personally think that a person should love who they want to love and that gay marrage should be legal. I'm not a lesbian but i don't have a problem with them. They can have sexual relationships wtih whoever they want.

It's all about the money, honey.

By recognizing marriage between the same sex, many things like insurance, tax forms and other services that incorporate the element of marriage must all be modified. Any change like that can cost mega dollars.

Also, I could see some in the business field lobbying against it as it could cause a reduction in premiums, benefits, etc.

Yeah, I love how some people call marriage this 'sacred' union. If it's so sacred to these people, why do 50% of people divorce? Sure, some people should divorce, but a lot of people who marry do so multiple times and never try to work things out in their marriage before they divorce. I'm a heterosexual, but I find it so ridiculous the way people in this country treat one another just because of factors that shouldn't matter. No one should judge anyone else because none of us are free of our own flaws.

There aint no diseases that can only be spread by homosexual intercourse. AIDS can be spread through heterosexual intercourse, junkies sharing needles, breastmilk, from a mother to a child, getting a tattoo with an un-sterile needle-need I go on?

And AIDS was started by, you guessed it, HIPPIES. Hippies started AIDS. That guy who is famous for bringing AIDS to America, he was a friggin' hippy.

In answer to your question, Brandi, it's pudding_volcano's fault for being so ignorant. pudding_volcano also caused the 9/11 terrorist attacks and the genocide in the Sudan.

Because America is still just as uneducated as the next guy, and therefore we still have ignorant people in this country. Ignorant people that don't care about the well being of others in this world or the advancment of human kind.

Unfortunately, Homosexuals will probably have to have a long drawn out fight for the same civil liberties as everyone else...just as others have done before them.

As Edmund Burke said, ""The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing."

It's up to those of us who accept gays and are in support of gay marriage to stop injustices against gays.
