Guys generally do not shop. They buy. The difference in fabrics, shades of colors, texture of the cloth are of little importance to guys. It is a distinction without a difference.
When it comes to hardware, electronics etc. the differences become meaningful to guys. However, they are still psychologically set to buy rather than shop.
Now comes the real question. What can be done about it? My suggestion is to talk to your husband. Find some middle ground. Ask him to shop with you for 15 minutes, a half hour, an hour or so. Then thank him for hanging out with you and allow him to go do some guy stuff. Tell him when to expect you to be done. Have an agreed upon meeting time and place and stick to it. If you find something and you really want him to see it, call him on a cell phone or bring him back to it.
If you cannot trust your husband not to stray while you shop, you have other, much larger problems.
The absolute worst thing you can do is insist he stay with you during your shopping expedition. I guarantee he will eventually hate you for that. Remember to place the same value on his time as you place on your own.

As a husband, I can say that I am not allergic to shopping. I enjoy going shopping, be it grocery or otherwise.
I will say that I enjoy it less when WE, as a couple, go shopping. It has to do with two factors: 1. My wife is too picky. 2. My wife does not have perspective on value.
Example 1: While grocery shopping, my wife will spend so much time in one section looking for items that I can complete all the rest of the shopping in the mean time. Often, it's foods I don't even eat (like Yogurt), so I have no input, but it just takes her so long.
Example 2: While in KMart, she mentioned that we needed paper towel. While she does her comparison of a few, and I grab a pack. She asks if that's the best value, and I have to explain all the math that proves that it is. (Six rolls at $5 is worse than my choice of 8 rolls at $4, go figure)
Sometimes, it's like shopping with Adrian Monk.

My husband LOVES to shop - when I tell him I want to go shopping, he absolutely has to come along. He even begs me to try dresses on - it's just a blast to him. If I have a day off and I go shopping, the next day off he gets, he goes out shopping - he can't shop enough really.
Yeah, I know I got a good one :) He's the best!

Yeah my guy whines if he has to go grocery shopping or go with me for ANYTHING at walmart. For a while I used to go by myself just to avoid his whining and complaining. Lately I've been telling him if he doesnt go with me I wont buy him any food. LOL IT only works 1/2 the time but, hey at least it works LOL He always has an excuse "oh I just got comfortable, oh I need a nap, I cant go, I dont feel good. " Same excuses I used to use when my mom asked me to clean my bedroom LOL MEN- do they ever grow up??LOL Another trick that works for me on occasion, say you are going somewhere he wants to go too." Oh I'm going to walmart to pick out lighting fixtures or electronics" " we can go look at circuit city after petsmart". Once again, you can only use this occasionally or he'll catch on.

It's the opposite here. I hate to shop. My husband loves to shop and even likes to go window shopping (which I really really really hate). I want to know what I'm going for, get in and get out as fast as possible.

We usually get into an argument. He starts it and I fall right into it every time.
I'm learning though. I don't really like it too much myself, but at least I enjoy it more by myself.
I just let him stay and unload the car when I do get home.
It's not worth the argument and it saves us both a lot of emotional energy.

Sounds like your husband is allergic to spending money unless it is for something he wants. Hmmm, is there a pill for that?

FUNNY !!! My husband is fine as long as it's shopping for HIM.
But when it comes to ME, it's a totally different story!
So, I go with him, because I pick out the majority of his clothing.
But when I go for myself..... I go alone!
Saves a lot of hassle!

My fiance loves shopping more than I do. I try to avoid it more. LOL...He says it is the quality and quantity time that we share and its one of his favorite times, because he can spend money on us.
