Okay, you're right about abstinence...but I was taught in middle school AND high school that to be abstinent was the only way that was 100% certain that I wouldn't get pregnant or contract an STD.
Kids SHOULD be taught abstinence. Period. They should know that there are other options, but the best one is to abstain from sex until they're an adult, or they're married.
As far as abortion, I'm pretty conservative on this issue...actually, I'm very conservative. Yet most people I know who are also conservative agree with me: Keep abortion legal for everyone throughout the first trimester. In the second, only if it was a (documented) product of rape, or if the mother's life is in danger. In the third, only if the mother's life is in danger.
Abortion shows only a lack of responsibility. It's like, "Hmm, I'm going to have sex, though I don't really want a baby, I'm only sixteen after all, oops I'm pregnant, gonna have an abortion. My parents will never know." In cases of rape, it's obviously NOT the woman's choice to have sex. (Just so you know, if a woman is raped, she can go to a hospital and get the "morning after" pill, which will ensure that she won't get pregnant.) But when it's consensual...yeah.
So, idealistic? A little. We just think that people should have some morals, and take responsibility for themselves. This attitude of "I want it, I want it, I want it all!" won't get a person anywhere.
As for the comment about a sixteen year old girl afraid that her dad will beat her if he finds out she's pregnant...that's not likely to happen. And in cases where there IS abuse, she can get help.

I'm not sure what you mean about being idealistic....does that mean it can't be done?
I'm a woman who is very conservative. I used to be a liberal, feminist, tree-hugging woman's libber. Life now is soooooo much better and healthier.
I used to say: I would hope to never have an abortion, but women should have a choice. It didn't take long working in a NICU to see us trying to save babies that were younger than aborted babies. I'm thinking: What's wrong with this picture. I know many women that have had abortions and every single one regrets it! They have such guilt and are so messed up when they think about how old their child would be. They've even named them and had funerals for them.
Since I've decided to wait until marriage to have sex, it is such a relief. I've had enough "freedom" to know when I've been used and when I've used others. It's not a good feeling. I know when I get married, everything will work just fine, it always has.
I'm not sure what your question is, but from the "right side", things are so much better and healthier all the way around!

Gawd - Im not sure that I have enough education to transcribe that so called "question" in to standard english.
All I have to say is this: If you think it is OK to kill a baby before it is born on the out side chance that it may have to endure some sort of negative experiences later in life, then you have a very immature and monochromatic oppinion on the value of life. How can you be so concerned about what will happen to a child if you think its ok to KILL them beofre birth? Have you no morals at all?
I guess killing babies is easier than dealing with the challenges they provide huh?
I would rather be idealistic than a murderer ANY day!

Given that conservatism (and liberalism, for that matter) is an ideology, I'd say the answer to your question is an unqualified "yes."
