Science is the process of earning knowledge of the world through an exact process that begins by observing an object or event in the world and stating what it is. Then you test your statement to see if it holds universally. Mathematics is a language to express those statements in a compact form that allows new information to be concluded from the established theories. Unfortunately, once something is expressed mathematically, (as a part of the process of science) unobserved information can be deduced from it. So math can corrupt science by taking on too much of its own life.

Both of them require more than memorization, usually. They require you to problem solve and apply concepts to various problems.
Plus, they are the most hated topics by high school students.
