There are lots of "how to be a consultant" books and guides out there.

Since I am one I'll tell you, it always looks easier from the outside, like any other business. The biggest challenge is getting more business lined up while also working with existing clients.

The second biggest challenge is that the "business" is all you. So there's no way to sellout or retire (there are solutions to this but most people don't do it right).

Check out www.dankennedy.com, he has a coach/consultant kit that I've used successfully. Also David Frey has a very useful kit. Then there's a book by Elsom Eldridge called "The Obvious Expert"

Good luck,
