From their relentless insistence that global warming is a "fact", completely ignoring their own stance from the 70's in which we were in the midst of an alarming "global cooling", to their hypocritical stance that I can't have religion influence my political opinions but their religion of gloom and doom HAS TO influence everything about modern politics, liberals are just too all over the board to be taken seriously.

It's funny to observe the religious fanaticism that takes hold of so many liberals when it comes to global warming orthodoxy. With a fervor that even the most devout Christian would admire, global warming zealots embrace an unproven and scientifically suspect theory as if it were, well, handed down from God.

Al Gore calls global warming an "inconvenient truth". Let's call it what it really is ... unproven theory based solely on projected models by people who have an agenda. The agenda? As usual ... getting as much more research money as possible. And avoiding real work.

Yes, the conservatives.

Yes, there are more "incorrect groups"...any sort of religious fanatical group, such as the Bush Administration or the Islamic Fundamentalists...ex.the Taliban, and they're much, much more dangerous than the "liberals".

what exactly is a liberal and what is a conservative anyway...they're just labels...people are more complex than that, but it's easier to see in black and white.

I believe that climate change is happening to some degree...but not everywhere in the world will "warm up".
However, all "facts" can be disputed...it's hard to actually know what is happening and what isn't because everyone has a bias...everyone has an "agenda" of some sort. Whether it's to keep their power or to change the current society towards their values/beliefs.

I believe many climatologists would say there was a short cooling trend in the 1970s, however most would now agree that the earth's temperature is rising...but how much? how fast? It is hard to predict, nevertheless climatologists and other scientists now have much better computer programs than they did in the 1970s that can replicate the earth's climate over a long period of time, as well as into the future.

Anyway, i'm probably wasting my time writing this to you because you probably won't change your mind/beliefs!

By the way, what is "real work"....is it investing money in stocks? Is it building houses? Is it taking care of the sick? Is it dealing drugs? How do you make a living and how does it affect others?

I just have to add something, a rebuke on buttercup's idea...you think that because there are no automobiles in the north that it isn't a concern for them...that pollution doesn't affect them?

Ever heard of wind? You obviously haven't taken atmospheric science have you? Air pollution gets whisked all around the world via air circulation, heavy metals/PCBs and other toxins in the food chain are real problems in the Arctic due to wind circulation.

Yes, lets all just assume that global warming is fake and not real and continue living our lives destroying the planet. Actually, there is much scientific data supporting global warming but I wouldnt call it a religion, more like common sense. Even if it is just a temporary increase in temperature, why shouldn't we humans work on making ourselves less dependant on fossil fuels, regardless of their impact on global warming? Feel free to continue to keep your head in the sand - us awake people will be happy to rule the world for you all.

I do agree we liberals are too "all over the board to be taken seriously" - heaven forbid someone actually have an opinion on more than one subject at a time, right? (thats sarcasm by the way)

GLOBAL WARMING/THE ENVIRONMENT IN GENERAL

Any and I mean any environmental cause or approach must be grassroots in nature. Having PhD's talk about global warming and having those representing industry interests debunk these present theories is a high level and almost an entirely futile effort. Don't get me wrong, it is great that someone with Al Gore's connections and exposure is getting the word out. However, people are people they want to see results.

Yes, the expression is now trite but still true, "Thing Globally, Act Locally". Watching the sky over a city, town or even a more rural area become darkened by smog has local impact, people take note and actually see A PROBLEM. A problem that can measured in terms of air quality or perhaps an AIR QUALITY HEALTH INDEX like the one that the provincial government in Ontario, Canada is in the process of implementing. You can measure results (however small) in terms of air quality and the affect it has on the health care system (those with breathing problems, doctor's visits, etc). It certainly speaks to the advantage of a UNIVERSAL health care system (however, actually implemented) as it actually makes sense to improve the environment as it keeps people healthy (a humanitarian cause) and when health care it publicly funded it affects the public coffers when people become ill therefore it even makes better financial sense to keep the environment a top priority.

Plus any approach must be entire with a complete overall plan (the big picture). Including recycling initiatives, energy solutions (alternatives/renewables can now present a real potential financial threat to the big oil companies and even power companies...), government involvement at all levels, public transit, greener vehicles in general (Hybrid, Hydrogen, Conventional electric, bio-diesel, ethanol), conservation in all energy arenas, ETC!

Economic viability is the real sell as many of these solutions are just that economically sensible (ensuring we look at the entire picture). Yes as more people use solar, wind and other renewable energy sources the cheaper the technology will get. Two of the newest billionaires have earned a large portion through renewables Solar (India I believe) and Wind (China I believe). Yes in many ways developing nations and economies will be the first and early adopters of such renewable tech as they are just building much of their infrastructure.

So what do we all need to do? GET INVOLVED ! Contact your local government about improving your recycling program, contact provincial/state/federal government about the adopting of these new technologies (renewables such as solar/wind), buy gas with ethanol in it and demand it, use and demand bio diesel, buy products with less packaging and demand manufacturers to reduce packaging and to offer a price break as a result. More ECONOMIC VIABILITY! After all energy diversity just like economic diversity is the safest and best bet for good long term results and return on investment.

The only point that I don't agree with you on is that the issue in not whether the earth is getting warmer (it is...by 1.1 degree over the last 100 years by most accounts), it is whether humans are causing it. I don't think we are and I don't think that any of the proposed solutions, especially the ones directed at closing down "big business", will change the natural cycles of the earth. Perhaps in 10,000,000 years the new human race will be pumping oil out of what used to be my spleen and charging $75 per barrel for it. Can I get my $75 now?

You are probably too young to remember, but back in the 70s we has some horribly cold winters and mountains of snow, ice storms, and a lot of severe cold weather.

They said it was GLOBAL COOLING b/c the pollution was bouncing the sun's rays back out into space. If we don't change our ways, we are going to bring on the next ICE AGE. (we didn't listen!)

Guess what? Yeah, global warming. Did you ever stop to think that all this godless random evolving, earth shifting, hurling through space, weather changes, volcanoes, insect/animal plagues, rogue asteroids that should smash us to pieces etc.. THE EARTH IS REMARKABLY STABLE despite it all?

Liberalism is about control, you name it, cigarettes, alcohol, big business, global warming etc. Don't believe the hype.

It can't be proven and there is absolutely nothing anyone has
ever been able to change is the weather. There are no automobile emmissions up where the ice has melted, so why
blame auto emmissions? This is just another tactic for Al Gore
to put himself in the limelight. In a couple years, we may have
global cooling when we're all hit with blizzard after blizzard. And,
Liberals, please don't blame George Bush as you have for the
hurricanes, illegals, and everything else that has happened lately.

Nosir. They are ******* morons for sure. To imply that one can actually measure the difference in "global temperature" from one year to the next is ludicrous. It is scientifically impossible to acquire this information, and wait, I thought the global warming theory was based on science. What a joke. Al Gore also invented the internet, don't forget.

You better write all your questions on this pretty quick and get off that sinking ship. Sad to tell you, but even the rats headed to shore off of this one. With every passing day the ranks of scientists who buy YOUR agenda on this issue are dwindling.

And no, it's not coming from God or his mother. It's coming from scientists whose skepticism were the only arguments you ever had in the first place. I hope you can tread water all the way to Falwell's place.
