an older player like zidane or figo who have experience and can come up with amazing plays, but may not be as fast and most likely cant last the full 90 minutes....(i love figo but damn, he sure looks tired by the second half of the matches).

or...

a young player whos full of ambition and energy, like messi or cristiano ronaldo. they may not have played as long but they are fast, agile, strong (in terms of kicking) and can definitely last a full 90 minutes plus 30 minutes of overtime.

Some would say young and some would say experienced. In fact, i believe you need a mix of both to build a strong team.
Usually, players who are in the age zone of 26-30 are said to have both strenght, speed, ambition and experience.
Lola P, I believe most on both ends enjoy what they have, afterall, it's better to live your age. Look for instance at Britney Spears, she's a good example of someone living their age, at 18, she was the crazy young darling, at 22, she was the star diva, now at 25, she is the young responsible mother.

Well, the older player is wiser, of course, but the younger player obviously has more energy. So, I would say it is best to have something in the middle. Take Klose, of Germany, who is less than a month over 28, and with one game remaining leads the tournament in goals scored. He also has racked up some assists, and although being a striker, can provide solid pressure defense when Germany cant give up a goal. For a midfielder, take Riquelme, of Argentina, who just turned 28. Of course, if you picture a whole team, you want some of all three types. Youngsters who can play two hours and still have something left, middleguys who can play more than the 90 minutes and still have something, and older guys who can only give an hour or so, but they really know what theyre doing.

I think it is a combination off both the young and energized ambitious with the older experienced classic players...you need the older to show the younger...Zidane sure proved he can go a full 90 minutes that is when the years of experience and skill come in to play....

You need:
of the 10 in the field: 1 or 2 experienced and the rest should be younger.
The 2 experienced should not play the same position.
The goal keeper could be also be young or experienced.

The mix is important to maintain strategy and leadership in the team while keep the ball moving all the time.

Both types of players are good to have, every time they are balanced. A team must have the experienced players that know the situation when it comes up, and the younger players that are able to carry out the plays of each team.

the older player. zidane may not be young but he sure is amazing and he can last the whole time. its better to be able to score a goal than waste energy trying and come up empty handed.

I'd say as much as possible - a balance of both. Done well, that's a difficult combination to beat.
